On December 29, 2025 Outdoor Specialist completed an interesting new build for Pacific Outdoor in Jersey City NJ. OSI joined hands with Rich Hardin Construction, Conrail, Illini Drilled foundations, the MUA and Pacific Outdoor. Prior to the work OSI made simulated renditions based on ballooning of how the sign would actually look when completed. In the beginning stages there was a soil test and geo work done because the area was full of palisades rock which is a very difficult hard rock to drill. We went back and forth with our engineers to find the perfect foundation match for this rock which was at a depth of 39’ below grade.
The sign location was extremely tight. We needed to remove permanent fence and place 160’ of temporary fence then tree removal to access the site from the neighboring MUA property. The MUA (a municipal authority) helped tremendously by letting us access the Conrail property through their property during the 3 week duration of the buildout. The drilling process included multiple casings and a slurry hole then the removal of the slurry material and the temporary casings as we poured the foundation. The use of heavy cranes through this process were needed to complete all the lifts at 150% and were documented by the railroad package that is required for all Conrail activity.
Our customer and the municipal property owner were extremely happy with the results of this build out and the previously completed renditions were exactly what the final product turned out to be. I-78 in Jersey City is a very heavily traveled Interstate that leads into the Holland Tunnel in New York City and to Newark, NJ and major airports translating into high advertising dollars.
